Sometimes after disconnecting my firewire drive (where I save all my torrents) and restarting bittorrent it appears to that the torrents continue anyway but saving to volumes/firewire2 or volumes/firewire3.
I would like to get rid of these invisible volumes.

Apple should really diversify their suppliers anyway, which is what they look like they are doing. Cut Samsung supply by 50%, and threaten all of it if they don't get their act together. Surely Samsung doesn't think that that they can bring in this kind of revenue on their own merit. Outside of LCD televisions, Samsung has an image problem, and even that has only improved in the last few years.

Apple's attitude about this stuf has always been very positive. I'm totally willing to believe that all this stuff was an oversight since believing that matches what they've said in the past.

I found a perfect little free Java app. It's called Mix2Stix (http://software.azett.com/index.php?cat=Mix2Stix)
It has a simple, easy to use interface and works on any platform (Windows, Linux, Mac...), with any storage device, and any file type. What more could you want?

In the UK, under its purely municipal law, there is a presumption that retail price management agreements are against the public interest, and therefore unenforceable. VersionTracker.com is indispensable for, personally.. With most software phoning for updates though, it's a bit overkill for VTP, so you're right on that one.
The "member" "freebies" on .Mac are the toaster over give away of the intarweb land. Lame x 3
.Mac used to (still does?) have a pretty nice discount on VersionTracker Pro/MacFixIt Pro. I sprung for it one year; didn't use the extras nearly enough to justify it, and even the paid version of MacFixIt is way too ponderous and difficult to search to have much worth. I do use VersionTracker Plus' features pretty heavily, so I would have paid for it anyway.
But .Mac did offer up a few nice discounts on shareware over the years that I put to good use. (And no, Virex doesn't count!) Nothing that would make you pay full price for the service, but enough to ease the pain noticeably.

How do you make your dock just a black strip like you did?
Running geektool. Most of the desktops you see are running it to display computer information, weather, music, etc.
I'm also using a black dock with the icons.

Hit command-j at the desktop and you'll get something that looks like this. Check 'Show Item Info' and you're good to go. :)
